a5c7b9f00b A coverup and witchhunt occur after a politician accidentally kills his mistress. In Washington, the Defense Secretary David Brice has a political dispute with Senator William 'Billy' Duvall about the project of a submarine. He asks his advisor Scott Pritchard to invite the Navy Lieutenant Commander Tom Farrell, who has become a national hero after rescuing a sailor during a storm, to join his team. Farrell meets Susan Atwell in a party and they have a torrid love affair. Farrell Learns that Susan is Brice's mistress but he falls in love with her. They spend a weekend together and when they return to Susan's apartment, Brice rings the bell. The upset Farrell leaves the apartment and sees Brice waiting for Susan. Brice has an argument with Susan and pushes her from the balcony. She falls on a glass table and dies. Brice panics and reports the accident to Pritchard. However, the Machiavellian chief of staff accuses the imaginary Soviet mole Yuri of murdering Susan. Farrell is assigned to lead the investigations to find the identity of Yuri, and gets in serious situation with the presence of witnesses of his weekend with Susan and the regeneration of a Polaroid photo that was found in Susan's apartment. It's a suspense thriller with the odd burst of action (though watching Costner run, doesn't really do it for me).

Confused and stupid in places. The best device in the movie - the suspenseful claustrophobia - could have been worked more. The idea of having eyewitnesses parade up and down the Pentagon to flush out a spy was wholly silly. The ending, though totally disjointed, actually elevated the film and Costner's character. Despite the film's length nothing really happens. It's brainless.

Only a few scenes have stuck in my mind. Sean Young's partial nudity and the eighties synthesizer soundtrack (Maurice Jarre) were the highlights of ultimately a very dull but surprisingly watch-able film. Greetings from Lithuania.

"No Way Out" (1987) is a must see to everyone who loves good thrillers. Expertly crafted, superbly acted by all involved - it's clicks on all cylinders and keeps you involved till the very last end, which gives a twist that even i couldn't see coming. What a great thriller. The performances are top notch, with the best one coming from Will Patton - superb role.

Overall, if you haven't seen this movie yet, it's a superb thriller, superbly acted with great suspense that will leave on the very edge of your seat till the very last end. Great movie. A worthy remake of the film noir classic THE BIG CLOCK, NO WAY OUT adds, among other things, a delightfully subversive twist ending. Good performances from a strong cast.
